Hi Def movies through USB drive

Hi Guys,

I wanted to know if we can play Hi Def movies which are on the USB drive or a External HDD on a PS3. Will the PS3 recognize if the movies are encoded with h264 codec (.mkv formats) that are usually available.

the answer is a resounding no - you can try changing the extn to .avi (works for low bitrates and will not work for higher btrates).

Better re-encode to a playable format like .avi etc for playback. The ps3 has the HW and processign power to play the files but sony like S(S)-O(H)-N(#)-Y(T) has locked the playback of mkv files naively.

2) No native support for .mkvs - bigger issue.

If it did have this compatibility at least, peeps who've invested in a PS3 already would kiss the Xstreamer and the likes' ass goodbye! :p

One word for ya'll

"MKV2VOB"

Format ur external drive to FAT32 and create a folder called "Video".
Copy all your converted files converted using mkv2vob convertor to this folder and plug it to ur ps3.
Enjoi.....!!!!
