Buying used Seiko from US...

Adept
Our first anniversary coming up in May and my better half wanted to gift me a watch(again:p). I would love to buy a divers watch with good lume which would come in handy during night shifts(yes we work in low lights in night shifts:p). I have been looking at Seikos particularly SKX 007 and the discontinued Seiko 6309. I like the 6309 better and since its discontinued i have to go the 'used' route. I have seen some used ones on sale in US.
So anyone went through this route pls advise how to go about. My friend in US will be paying and get it shipped to HYDERABAD.
Is custom and other taxes applicable for this since it's a used watch? If yes what are the other taxes apart from shipping?
Budget is 350$ and any other recommendations are welcome(non divers also). My pref basically are clean simple dial, gooood lume, love the quartz too.

Regards,
s2p.

Buying a used watch is a gamble unless you know more about the owner of the watch i.e. how well he takes care and manages his watches. I have never bought a used watch from US or any other country so am not sure about the custom duty but considering it is an old watch and marking it as a Gift can avoid the duty. Or best ask someone to get this for you in person. Regarding good lume watch the best are the GTLS, nothing comes close to their lume and they do not require any activation. I in person am looking to get a T100 if I can convince myself to throw another 30k on a watch :p

I too am wondering about customs duties on importing watches. Can someone shed some light on this?

From what I read 10% duty is charged on most classes of watches.

Hold back buying a used watch. Just get the SKX brand new and have a blast. If you really want night-life, then go for a watch with Tritium Tubes. Luminox and Doxa are two famous brands, offering this function. These are expensive those.

Thanks for the reply @Roxitin. Never seen these watches. Will look into them. Thansk for the suggestion.
@asingh Never been a fan of tritium tubes and Lumiox is all tritium so ruled out. Love the orange dials and lume of doxa but they are beyond my budget.
Regarding a used watch Im actually looking to buy from a respectable seller on WUS or TZ with service history of the watch. Do you think its still a gamble?
I like the SKX but love the 6309.

WUS is safe. Those guys know their watches. The 6309 is a classic.

Yobokies (Seiko Boy) is perfectly legit. I know a lot of people who have got stuff from you. You will need to browse his photo stream and contact him.

yeah already mailed him and true to hie rep replied very fast and patient. Im thinking of the following mods.
Dial: http://s161.photobucket.com/user/yobokies/media/Dial/IMG_2303.jpg.html?sort=6&o=8
Hands
Seconds
: http://s161.photobucket.com/user/yobokies/media/Hands/IMG_8946.jpg.html?sort=6&o=52
Hours: http://s161.photobucket.com/user/yobokies/media/Hands/DSCN8064.jpg.html?sort=6&o=106
(Hours and minute hands should be sword hands like Omega 2254)
Chapter Ring: http://s161.photobucket.com/user/yobokies/media/Chapter Rings/27316452.jpg.html?sort=3&o=6
(incase the stock 007 ring doesnt align with the Dial)
Bezel: Stock 007 Bezel
Case: Stock 007 Case
Bracelet: Stock 007 Jubilee
Lume: C3 lume on indices and hands.

Well the modded watch is getting very expensive. Yookies quoted 385+shipping for the watch with hammer bracelet. Having second thoughts.
Too many ideas so little money to spend :'(
Bidding on a seiko 6309 on the bay..Gotto see how it ends up.

Excellent! Now put it on a nice leather strap. :)

Did you get hit with customs? Any trouble dealing with creationwatches? I have a couple of watches in my crosshairs, but skeptical about going the import route.

Yeah gotto check how it looks on Hirsch Carbon Strap.
No hassels no customs no duties. Go ahead with CW. Ordered on saturday night and received it yesterday evening.[DOUBLEPOST=1398397318][/DOUBLEPOST]One of the reasons I bought the watch:

A nice strap can completely change the look of a watch and increase longevity many fold. Again, congratulations for a super duper watch.
