Corning, Inc., announced recently that they will be launching their EAGLE XG LCD glass which is manufactured without the heavy metals used in previous LCD glass products.
The new glass will rid the production process of harmful waste and also to cut manufacturing costs and, in turn, reduce prices. Corning's New LCD Glass is Lighter, Safer and Cheaper.

Corning supplies the majority of the world with glass for LCD substrates -- in particular LG.Philips LCD and Samsung LCD are major buyers of Corning glass. Cheaper substrates will almost certainly result in cheaper LCD panels for everyone, though it is unclear just how much this new material will affect the retail market.
