It seems to me that Airtel speeds have finally gone to hell for good. Its time to make a switch from my existing unlimited 256Kbps Home 999 plan. Please help me in exploring the alternatives. What I can think of is -
Retain the Airtel connection and switch to some cheapest available plan.

Get MTNL 749NU connection.
I want to retain Airtel connection with any cheapest available plan because this will ensure that at least some internet connection remains available whenever MTNL connectivity goes down. Plus, in future, if Airtel comes out with some great plan, it will enable me to make a switch.
I am not sure whether MTNL 749NU connection is available in Delhi for new subscribers. Not considering Tata as option since 2Mbps NU is not available anymore for new subscribers. Plus I expect Tata service/billing to be worse than MTNL.
Please let me know your views on this so that I can decide on details.
