Toyota has launched the latest gen Prius in the Indian market @ 26.55 Lakhs. Comes with a 1.8 litre 100 ps petrol engine combined with a 36 ps electric motor.
The second Hybrid in the Indian market after the Honda Civic but with a lot more pedigree and stamp of the Hollywood brigade.

Unless the govt reduces the duty on hybrid cars to 0% and the company wants to make an impact the hybrid is no go in India...
Remember Honda had to sell its Civic Hybrid at more than 50% discount and then it sold like hot cakes. - 8 Jan 10 08:37 PM #3is Offline Banned

Agreed... I think goverment should do away with the high import duties in the name of protecting the industry. All it is protecting is the interests of the automobile companies.

^ all its protecting is its income, nothing else. no govt in the world cares for any industry imo.

Also the one with severe braking and acceleration problems. Hope those are fixed before it comes here.

Perhaps this has been the worst possible launch Toyota would have ever imagined.
Plagued with recall reports with various issues, Prius launch has been a damp squib! - 9 Feb 10 08:22 PM #8

thats because in india mileage is imortant, but not important enough to warrant spending lakhs more tan other cars just because its a (hollywood) Green car.
which btw is less green to produc ethan just a normal car
