The Tata Nano has passed current European front and side impact standard crash tests.

The £1800 economy car was subjected to tests at the MIRA test centre last week under the supervision of an inspector from Britain’s Vehicle Certification Authority.

The tests were witnessed by several journalists, including Autocar’s Steve Cropley.

The crash tests included a 40 per cent offset and a 56km/h (35mph) frontal impact and are tougher than those that exist in India - currently the Nano’s only market - but they are due to be adopted in India in three years’ time.

Indian Nano is not having the exact same safty features as of this one.

    1. Indian gov is least bothered about it.

    2. Indian buyers, esp Nano buyers, won't mind.

    3. Increased wt. will reduce FE, performance ( is there any?).

    4. It will increase the cost.

Good news really, its amazing to learn that such a low cost car can be adaquately safe.

Mr Tata indicated about Nano's safety prior to the launch & has kept his promise.

What he says is true actually. The nano sold abroad would be sold with airbags and abs as well

Makes sense as it would be Rs.1.4 lakhs with the GBP converison.

Those features are absolutely essential in countires where highway speeds are much faster than here.
