You are paying for IE the same way you are going to pay for Chrome on Windows. Please dont say you can get chrome for free via Linux, we are comparing IE's cost and Chrome's cost.
Any windows user can download IE for free, just like he can download Chrome for free.

Only downside is that web developers will now have three rendering engines to deal with, as if two wasn't enough. |
Well, i liked IE8's Smart Bar than Firefox's bar. IE8's bar is much more refined, nicely sectioned and includes more info. It looks much better and polished too. You cant deny the fact that FF3's bar is ugly and looks bigger in size than it needs to be.

Tried the JS speed on IE8? I found it to be a lot more snappier than FF3.

Another cool feature of Chrome is the
search suggestion via the Omni Bar. Now, to open a site you know the title of but not the address, no need to search via google and then open it. Just type in the Title of the page and you have the url presented to you right there in the omni bar.
For eg. To open Google reader, i did not type google.com/reader , i just typed in Google reader and it gave me the url by itself. A huge timesaver!!
