I personally advise people to skip Ubuntu 7.10. My 7.04 setup was great, but when I upgraded to 7.10 things that worked started breaking with no easy way to fix except to fall back to source recompilation... plus many of the non-free packages were never ported over so....
8.04 ought to be interesting comparatively, though as far as I am concerned, 6.10 was the version in which Ubuntu showed it was better than Fedora (up until then Fedora ruled the roost among free Linux distros IMHO)
