Agreed. WinXP auto tunes itself for older systems with low memory. This was done to allow early adoption of WinXP. But with SP2 and daily usage and the eventual registry bloat from bad applications, the system will begin to crawl.

Plus, speaking from experience, I've seen laptop h/w to be quite slow v/s desktop h/w of the same generation. The 2.5 inch HDD cannot give performance near that of a 3.5 incher. The RAM is slower and the proccy is optimized for lower power usage.
