i m currently having a 160 gb seagate IDE HDD

2.my mother board does not have any sata port so i ll be buying a ide to sata converter as well ,
now my question is after using the ide to sata converter will the speed of the new one decrease, will it still give same optimal performance?
is it recommended to use it as such

3.the other question is that shud i keep the OS in my 160 gb segate IDE HDD only and keep the new 1tb for storage
or shud i just sell it off and keep the new 1TB WD only !

4.and lastly how much shud 160gb seagate ide sell for
its 7200.7 and warranty till 2011

thanks in advance for help

1:: Ill suggest WD becaouse of onsite warranty u dont have to run around centre ..ya but once gone it takes 12-15 days for return..Also offlate lot of huge capacity seagates are failing as seen on threads on TE

2::HAvent try it so cant comment but ya surely performance decrease will happen..no doubt upto 10%(or say 3-5mb/sec less copy speed)

3:: That would be best option ...As when u OS crashes and if HDD is culprit ull b happy your data is safe .As the chances of OS crash is high than data storage hdd

4::Even if u get 1.3-1.5k(Since its IDE else i would had said 1k)..but best option would be to keep it with yourself and when warrannty comes near end and if u buy new mobo with onboard sata try for replacement and ask the guy for sata replacement ...i dont think he would mind as sata is presently available everwhere
