Your processor must support 64 bit to be able to even install 64 bit OS.

Use a tool like everest or CPU Z to see the details of your RAM sticks as seen by the Mobo. I am 100% sure u will see 4Gb total there. It would be next to impossible to make a 1.5 Gb RAM stick just to cause you trouble.
