TP-Link Tapo C225 camera not compatible with Apple Homekit

If you own it, How did you connect it to the homekit, i cant add to home in the settings page.

If you mean this specific model, then no I don’t have it. I have other Tapo cameras that I run via scrypted c225 is supposed to work with HomeKit natively. There are two ways of adding HomeKit devices, either in the HomeKit app where you scan a qr code/enter a 8 digit number or via the Tapo app where you go in the camera and there would be an option to add to HomeKit.

The generic Tapo manual here suggests option 2, while the c225 guide suggests option 1

You will need a HomeKit hub ( i.e. Apple TV) to view the camera remotely

i had these for more than 6 months and theres no option to add to the homekit. I don’t remember seeing any homekit qr code on the back of the camera. Kasa stuffs works with homekit and other tapo series works too. Tp-link like to shovel/downgrade for indians.

C225 has various versions. Though the Amazon listing claims homekit support, the box I received has no logo of apple homekit nor any mention of the same. Only then i realized only the latest version of this model has the compatibility and not sold in India

Its not just with the tapo sub-brands, tp-link stuffs have multiple versions and the only way if you buying online is like playing lottery.

Oh damn, that’s awfully sneaky of them to advertise on their product page and only supporting HomeKit on the latest version of this camera.

In case you still want HomeKit support, I would recommend using homebridge or HA or scrypted

it works very poorly with homebridge. we can enable rtsp stream within tapo app and link it to homebridge and then to homekit. the experience is very poor that i returned the item back. very low image quality, no features available like camera pan and no video recording

Hmm. The experience also matters on what drive homebridge was running. A RPi4 for example would be too under powered. I’ve been using with Scrypted (https://docs.scrypted.app/) with 10+ Tapo cameras hosted on a shared i3 plex server. It’s been very smooth for me overall.

Happy to help if you or anyone else needs help configuring this setup

Please do share your setup.

If someone is using a bunch of cameras from Hikvision or similar brands including their software, is it actually useful to stream them to Homekit? Could you share some of the pros of this approach? Recording is already happening to a NVR so I'd prefer not to record again on the device hosting scrypted / homebridge.
